Trauma Therapy

Adults

I specialize in providing trauma therapy to adults who have experienced childhood trauma and/or ongoing conflict with their family of origin. This includes sexual trauma, physical abuse, and emotional abuse. Together we will thoughtfully unpack your past experiences and examine how they influence who you are in the present day. This work often involves Inner Child work, where I help you dialogue with your younger self to improve your cognitions and emotions around your past trauma. Another approach is Brainspotting, which is similar to EMDR, and involves identifying, processing, and releasing core neurophysiological sources of trauma using bilateral movements and sound.

If you are not yet ready to engage in therapy, here are a few books and workbooks I recommend to get healing started on your own:

For sexual trauma survivors:

Healing Steps: A Gentle Path to Recovery for Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse by Sharyn Higdon Jones

For child abuse survivors:

SOUL SURVIVORS: A New Beginning For Adults Abused As Children by J. Patrick Gannon

For survivors of emotional abuse:

Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents

For survivors of other types of trauma:

The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effects of Childhood Adversity by Nadine Burke Harris

To better understand trauma and PTSD:

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk

Children

I provide trauma therapy to children of all ages and I am a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional. For very young children, sometimes this means working in a dyadic format (with both child and caregiver present). For more about my work with children, please see the Child & Family Therapy page.
