Couples Therapy

I provide treatment for couples in person or virtually, to address issues such as :

  • relationship satisfaction

  • managing conflict

  • parenting

  • healthy communication

  • sexuality or intimacy challenges

  • trauma history of a partner

  • body image issues impacting intimacy

  • infidelity

  • difficulty connecting

My style is warm and nonjudgmental. We all struggle in relationships and there is nothing “wrong” with you because you are seeking out couples therapy! We will work together to find a way through your struggles in a way that feels safe and manageable.

I have training in the two most commonly used modalities in couples therapy at present—Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method. I also provide premarital therapy and use the Prepare-Enrich assessment to help couples preparing for marriage to identify and address relationship concerns ahead of marriage in a structured manner.

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT): Using EFT, we identify and transform the negative interaction patterns that create distress in your relationship following a clear, structured path to healing. I will guide you in effectively recognizing and expressing your needs to your partner. We will also focus on building up your secure attachment bond with one another. For more about EFT, read this article and check out this 3 minute video clip of an EFT session by a leading EFT therapist, Dr. Sue Johnson.

Gottman Method: The Gottman Method helps couples change communication styles, increase intimacy and affection, and tear down barriers to positive relationship progress. The Gottman Method incorporates a vast array of worksheets and activities that can be done both in and outside of session. This page has some great statistical information about the success of this method and explains it in more depth. This video illustrates some of the principles underlying this method of couples work.
